Meet The Captain
Born in 1965 in Charleston, South Carolina, C.A. later moved to St. Petersburg in 1967, where he refined his angling skills on the beaches, piers, and inshore flats of Tampa Bay. During his teenage years, he devoted countless hours to casting artificial lures and bucktail jigs, targeting trout, snook, tarpon, and redfish, unknowingly laying the foundation for his future as a professional angler.
After achieving significant success in regional tournaments during the 80s and 90s, C.A. decided to enter the realm of professional tournament fishing. He established a national presence, competing in venues from North Carolina to Texas, and gained valuable insights into localized techniques with light tackle. These diverse experiences played a pivotal role in shaping his guide business in Tampa Bay, where he caters to clients who revel in catching inshore species using only artificial baits.
In the course of his guiding career, C.A. recognized a need for knowledge, particularly among novice and intermediate anglers seeking to master the nuances of inshore fishing, especially with artificial lures and fly fishing. This realization led to the creation of the Flats Class, a popular traveling fishing school led by C.A. and featuring instruction from regional inshore pros. The success of the Flats Class paved the way for Flats Class TV.
Presently, Capt. C.A. has transitioned away from competitive fishing to return to his flats and backcountry roots. His primary focus is on developing Flats Class and the new Flats Class University, an online fishing school. In addition to these major projects, Capt. C.A. continues his role as a professional guide, industry spokesperson, and tackle development guru for his corporate partners.
